CBS2 Boise — A weak front will move in Wednesday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center believes we'll see a marginal risk of severe weather as the front moves in. At minimum we'll see scattered thunderstorms. At worst, some of the storms will have the potential to be severe in nature. That means we could see gusty winds in excess of 55 mph in parts of the Treasure Valley. There is also a risk of flash flooding in some of the burn scars from recent fires in Harney and Baker County in Oregon. The scattered thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon should help to clear out the smoke just a bit.
A trough of low pressure will likely move inland on Thursday and Friday. This should give us some much-needed relief from the triple-digit heat as it brings milder air in from the Pacific. Temperatures will drop right around 99 degrees on Thursday and we should be right around normal over the weekend as we hover near the mid 90's. Longer-range models don't hold much hope of an extended cooldown. While the smoke sticks around through Wednesday, the air quality should improve on Thursday and Friday behind the weak front on Wednesday. Overall, the dry pattern will continue through the middle of next week.
