AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — A mother and son from Austin were arrested Tuesday for their alleged involvement in trafficking a runaway teenager from Kansas, according to an arrest affidavit.
The court document said officers with the Wichita Police Department took a report on Jan. 14 that said a 16-year-old girl ran away from a state-run facility.
Officers reviewed video footage from the same day that showed the teen leaving work and getting into a vehicle.
Police were able to use license plate reader cameras to track the vehicle as it traveled back to Austin.

The vehicle was registered to Judy Myers, a 62-year-old from Austin. The record listed 35-year-old Christopher Mitchell as her emergency contact.
On Feb. 5, Austin police officers found the vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 9200 block of Jollyville Road. They saw Mitchell leave one of the units and drive to Myers’ house off Flagstaff Circle. He then returned to the apartment with the victim.
Police transported the two to the offices of APD’s Human Trafficking Unit.
The victim told police that she and Mitchell had sex. Mitchell confirmed that he knew she was only 16 years old. Myers said was aware of everything that was going on, according to court documents.
On Thursday, online records showed Mitchell in custody at the Travis County Jail with a cumulative bond of $207,500.
Mitchell is charged with sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony, trafficking of persons, a first-degree felony, and unlawful restraint, a state jail felony. Myers is charged with interference with child custody, a state jail felony.
