BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Western Idaho Fair announced its 2023 Beer of the Year Winner, Aaron 'AJ' Hoberg.
When CBS2 asked Hoberg where he started, he told us how a gift turned into a big dream come true. Hoberg only started making beer in 2019 when his girlfriend gifted him a beer-making kit, which was only five gallons big. He then created his winning beer, the Riverbank Blonde ale. The beer is light-bodied, crisp, dry and gently hopped to create a citrusy finish.
Aaron Hoberg said, "I compiled a bunch of different recipes together and kind of settled on what I wanted on this one and brewed it up on my little own five-gallon system." Hoberg described his winning beer saying, "It's a blonde that's nice, cool, and refreshing. It's great for mowing the yard, hanging out at the beach, you know, wherever!"
Sockeye Brewing teamed up with the Western Idaho Fair, and for Hoberg's reward, he will get to brew bigger with them.
If you want to taste it, go to any beer booths at the Western Idaho Fair, which runs from Aug. 18 to Aug. 27.
