CBS2 (BOISE) — The Meridian State of the City was held today, with Mayor Robert E. Simison speaking on the past year, and the future of the city.
"I say this to you," Mayor Simison said. "the state of Meridian is resolute, and as your Mayor I am determined to stay firmly focused on being the west's premier place to live, work and raise a family."
Simison said that through a "Main Street Business-friendly" approach has created an environment for local businesses to thrive, alongside the city itself.
With the recent updates to Opticom a system that allows first-responders to better adapt traffic to their needs during an emergency, alongside what Simison described as a robust and community-minded police force have contributed to a 10% decline in crime from 2022 to 2023.
He also noted the opening of two new fire stations last Fall, which he said contributed to both fire and EMS readiness.
"These wins are possible because of the collaboration between the firefighters in the field, the administration team, and our Rural Fire District," Simison said.
The Mayor went on to highlight continued work on what he called his "number one project" -- the Linder Road Overpass, which he said "continues to move forward."
He also noted businesses like the Meridian Speedway -- recently being listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, and expansions to Discovery Park, noting that businesses like these are what makes Meridian such a family-friendly environment.
"As you go about the rest of your day and think about what has been shared, I ask you to imagine what the bright future of Meridian holds," Simison said.
