The Quarry features a nifty little feature that can reverse the time and deaths of characters. Keep reading to learn how the Death Rewind feature works.
The Quarry is a brand new third-person decision interactive survival horror game from the creators of Until Dawn. It tells the story of nine teenagers and their valiant efforts at surviving the night at Hackett’s Quarry.

Your main characters are summer camp counselors Laura Kearney, Max Brinly, Abigail Blyg, Jacob Custos, Dylan Lenivy, Kaitlyn Ka, Nick Furcillo, Emma Mountebank, and Ryan Erzahler. And you have to make meticulous choices to ensure their survival. However, due to the thrilling nature of the game and the limited timeframe for making major decisions, you may not always be able to save everyone.
Moreover, their fate is also sometimes dependent on certain button-mashing sequences and quick-time events. So, the press of a wrong button or failure to keep up might cause the untimely demise of the characters you’ve been rooting to save. Not to mention, a character dying early will deprive you of all their future interactions and scenes.
Having said that, The Quarry does offer a Death Rewind feature that can undo a character’s death. Even though saving someone from certain death doesn’t involve replaying the entire chapter, you still have to finish the story at least once to unlock the Death Rewind feature. However, if you’ve already got the Deluxe Edition of the game, then you’ll have this feature at your disposal from the get-go.
How it Works
So, how does this Death Rewind system work? Think of this feature as a lifeline that lets you turn back time when your character dies. Instead of starting over from the very beginning, you’ll be taken back to moments before the character’s untimely demise. This means that you’ll start over right before the major decision that caused the character’s death.
To access this death rewind mechanic, you’ll have to wait for the rewind symbol to appear at the top of your screen when your character dies. Then, when you press the command button, you’ll be taken right back to the point where it all went wrong.
The Drawbacks
This Death Rewind feature is not as foolproof as it sounds. Keep in mind that a character’s death in Chapter 10 triggered by a decision taken in Chapter 1 will take you back right to that very point. So, you’re at the risk of having to replay almost the entirety of the game when that happens. Moreover, you will only get 3 of these Death Rewind lifelines per playthrough. So, you have to be very careful about whom you wish to save.
Although, Supermassive is said to be working on an update that will highlight the major decisions tied to character death. That way, players won’t lose out on hours of progress just by choosing to save a person at the wrong time. Until then, try to use your Death Rewinds with caution.
